Garden Party

Tuesday, March 18, 2014

Just thought i would do a small blog post on my daughter Addison's 2nd birthday party last year.

I decided I would do an outdoor garden tea party & had in my head to have it outdoors with cushions on the grass & fun & games in the yard.

I got planning a little earlier with this party as there were a few things I wanted to make myself, for example the cushions for outside & pinata.

I firstly decided on the colour theme of pink, blue & yellow with a splash of white, I just love these colours together and thought it would be perfect for an outdoor party.

My cushions were the first thing I made. I headed off to spotlight and found all the fabrics I wanted using my colour theme I had in mind. to make the ottomon style cushion I found this great tutorial at living with punks blog. It was super easy and they turned out fabulous I was so happy with how they looked.

Next I had some fabric left over so decided to make a number 2 to display on Addison's party table. This was a bit of a experiment as I didn't really know how I was going to do it but  I got a paper mach'e number 2 from spotlight, my hot glue gun, a small piece of stuffing, some cardboard and my fabric and just went for it. I firstly laid my number 2 on the fabric & cut out the outline with an extra inch all the way round, so I did this front & back, then I glued a bit of the stuffing on the face of the number 2, laid it face down on the fabric & got my hot glue gun and worked my way around gluing it to the edges pulling tight. I continued this all the way round then diid the same thing to the other side. So then I had to cover up all the scrappy looking edges, so I covered a long piece of cardboard which I made sure I cut long enough to go all the way round my number and hot glued it around the edge, which covered up all the messy bits. Sounds simple right!! Well it turned out somehow & I was super happy with it LOL!

The next thing I made wasn't really planned however we were having a cleanup around our area at the time & I drove past these old table and chairs someone was just throwing out and thought they would be perfect if I could just paint them up and use as the kids table outside. So as you do I made my husband head over and pick them up as I was too  embarrassed  to do it myself. So off i went to bunnings to get some paint & my parents house to get an electric sander & off I got to work. I sanded them all back to start with, then painted them in the colours I wanted. I wanted to do the distressed vintage look so once they were all painted I sanded over them again & HEY PRESTO!! They looked fab even if I do say so myself lol!!

I thought it might be fun for the kids to have a piñata. So I made the piñata using one of our extra large balloons & covered it with paper mach'e. Once was dry I decorated the outside with white tissue paper petals & added some green card paper as leaves, didn't turn out perfect but hey it still looked pretty and it did the job, the kids found it a little hard to crack open but once they did they enjoyed all the goodies inside.

Inside I setup a display on the wall of photos of Addison throughout the year in the shape of a number 2, this was just a last minute thing I did but I think it looked great & the guests loved seeing photos of her throughout the year & to see how much she had grown.
I setup my dessert table with all the sweets, drinks & yummy food. All Products that I used to style my table inside are all from my online party supply store www.sweetlittlesoiree.com.au and are as follows:

Outside I hung around beautiful pink & white lanterns from the back deck and trees, had a bubble machine going as all kids love bubbles & setup a little sitting area for the kids to have a little tea party with the cushions and a beautiful rug to sit on.

I had an adults table & a kids table decorated with our gorgeous polka dot paper plates, polka dot paper cupsgrass place mats, grass animals & lolly jars used as vases filled with flowers.

Everything turned out beautiful & Addison had a fabulous 2nd birthday party which is all I could ask for.
